De-Naming - Re-Naming

Today, 12th March 2016, a great milestone was achieved! After almost 2 years, we have finally gotten around to changing her name to Bela Vida.

Old decals removed, she was bare for a few days before we managed to stick on the name that had been living under our sofa for the better part of 6 months now.

After looking at a few YouTube vids, I figured out how to go about it and while we needed the break from all the work on the boats mast, we made the effort to give her her rightful name. “Bela Vida”, Portuguese for “Beautiful Life”. We think it is a fitting name that carries the yachts soul with it and besides, it suits her personality.

It is a two-step process, as we have two colours on the name. Blue on top with an anthracite drop-shadow. The alignment was crucial and needed to be done in one go. To be truthful, the whole process was a bit nerve-racking as this was a big and important step for the boat. We had been dreaming of this moment for a very long time and now, that the moment had come, I didn’t want to stuff it up by sticking it on lob sided, or worse, tearing the decals etc.

Maybe that’s why name changing ceremonies include so much rum?!

Anyway, naval traditions were strictly adhered to by means of rum soaked de-naming and re-naming ceremonies and both Neptune’s and Poseidon’s records have been altered to reflect this.

May she sail safe and comfortably, with good breeze and following seas in any of the seven seas she may find herself in.
